Our Writing Lives: with Libby Page, Winnie M Li & Frances Liardet

  • The River House 2 Bridge Street Frome (map)

Three local female authors share their experiences of getting published and turning writing into a career. How do you juggle writing with family life and without losing the love of what you do? What are the ups and downs of being a published writer, earning a livelihood, and preserving your creative integrity?

Together Winnie M Li, Frances Liardet and Libby Page have published nine novels. Their books are published as suspense, historical fiction, and women’s fiction, but they also worked previously in a range of other fields like journalism, film producing, social justice advocacy, language teaching and archaeology. They will talk about their writing lives, answer questions and, of course, sign copies of their books.

All are welcome to join this conversational event. Whether you are an aspiring author, an established writer looking to connect with other writers, or a reader interested in hearing about the process of book writing, we’d love to see you there.

This event is brought to you in association with The Write Place - a fabulous haven for writers in the heart of Frome. The Write Place offers dedicated desk spaces, a green room and access to a valuable community of writers. They can be found upstairs at Black Swan Arts and online at https://www.writeplace.org.uk/

About the Authors:

Winne M Li: Winnie is an author and activist. Her latest novel Complicit was a New York Times Editors’ Choice, shortlisted for the Royal Society of Literature’s Encore Award, and listed among the Best Novels of 2022 by Grazia, Glamour, and The Irish Times. Her debut Dark Chapter won The Guardian’s Not The Booker Prize, was nominated for an Edgar Award, and translated into ten languages. She is currently adapting it for the screen. Winnie also advocates publicly around sexual violence and consent, and holds an honorary doctorate of law from the National University of Ireland in recognition of her work. Originally from the US, she now lives in Horningsham with her partner and toddler, and they make very good use of their Longleat Annual Pass. http://winniemli.com

Frances Liardet: Frances is the author of the Betty Trask winner The Game and, twenty-five years later, the New York Times best-selling novel We Must Be Brave and its follow-up, Think of Me. Both latter books are set in the 1940s and are described as historical fiction, which Frances’s mother, a wartime child and still very much alive, finds rather disconcerting. Fortunately for her, Frances’s next novel is contemporary literary fiction. When Frances is not writing she volunteers as a support worker for the baby loss charity SANDS and does laundry for her husband and teenage daughter.

Libby Page: Libby is the Sunday Times bestselling author of four novels. Her first book, The Lido, became an instant bestseller and was published in over twenty-five territories around the world. Her latest novel, The Vintage Shop is set in Frome where she lives with her husband and young son. She is currently working on a follow up to The Lido, called The Lifeline. When she is not writing she works as a writing coach, goes wild swimming and can be found eating cake at various cafés around Frome with her family.

All three authors are members of The Write Place.
